On post lodging at Fort Belvoir is available through the MWR Army Lodging Central Reservations line, although most government, military, and civilian personnel prefer to stay in local hotels or corporate housing options to accrue rewards points for future travel, and to stay in longer term furnished accommodations while on a TDY (Temporary Duty) assignment.  The Military District of Washington includes Fort Belvoir as part of the greater military base community within the National Capitol Region of Northern Virginia and Maryland.  Our featured extended stay hotel is the Extended Stay America Washington, DC, which offers per diem rates and long term rates for military personnel receiving BAH (Basic Housing Allowance) while relocating and house hunting or if on the post housing waiting list. 


Fort Belvoir Lodging

Our Fort Belvoir Lodging options are within the Washington DC metropolitan area and are available at the government lodging rate.  Located at the southern end of the Washington DC 495 beltway loop, Fort Belvoir is in close proximity to Springfield Virginia.  TDY Lodging also has several hotels, inns, and bed & breakfast type of accommodations including the Wellington House.  We also feature furnished apartments and condo rentals in nearby Alexandria Virginia for travelers interested in longer term accommodations for a month or longer, with the incentive of being close to local restaurants and nightlife, while still being close to Fort Belvoir.

US Military Lodging

Military lodging is generally available on every DoD installation, although service members may prefer to stay off post at local hotels or furnished apartments and condos when available, or if the nature of their travel orders requires a long term assignment lasting several months.  Our previous blog post about the Army Lodging Reservations process discusses how to make reservations through the Army MWR Lodging Central Reservations line for active duty and reserve component personnel.  Most military lodging facilities on base will need to issue a statement of non-availability number to place of the travel voucher for filing with DFAS (the Defense Finance and Accounting System) which processes all travel claims for military lodging both on and off base.

Military lodging facilities on base offer reservations directly through the front desk lodging office, or through the central reservations line, and these facilities tend to be at the per diem reimbursement rate or slightly below.  Many of the local hotels near Department of Defense installations will offer rooms for government personnel directly at the Military Lodging Rates for official travel.  When the military lodging rate exceeds the maximum per diem rate allowed by the GSA (General Services Administration) schedule, a special request and waiver form can be submitted to verify that military lodging rates were unavailable at the time of the assignment; Although rare, when hotels and other types of accommodations are in high demand especially in large cities or during highly attended events, rates may at times exceed the max per diem rate for military lodging requirements in the U.S. and overseas.  See all of our Hotels and Military Vacation Rentals at TDYLodging.com.

Fort Sam Houston Lodging

MWR Army Lodging Reservations

Most major Army installations have a temporary lodging facility on post which caters to transient personnel on short term assignments.  Operating much like a hotel, each Army lodging facility on base has rooms available for military personnel and retirees.  Government and DoD contractors, while not required, have the option of staying in Army Lodging if space is available or they may stay in local hotels or corporate housing accommodations near the installation.  Active Duty, Army Reserve, and National Guard soldiers generally have the option of either staying in Army MWR Lodging or in a hotel on the local economy with either authorization from their unit or if provided a Statement of Non-Availability (SNA) number.  Depending on the nature of travel and the type of assignment orders (TDY assignment or a PCS relocation move), service members may not require unit authorization at times, and are able to make reservations on their own.  Army Lodging facilities may be fully booked at times requiring military personnel to reside in off base lodging.  Additionally, Army personnel may prefer to stay off post for several reasons including better accommodations, proximity to restaurants and nightlife, as well as the ability to accrue hotel rewards points or stay in better long term accommodations like a furnished apartment or condo rental.

Army Lodging Reservations
Reservations can be made directly through each Army post facility, or through the Army Lodging Central Reservations line.  If post lodging is unavailable for official travelers, recommendations may be made for personnel required to stay off base because of unavailable rooms.  Travelers interested in staying at local hotels, furnished apartments, or corporate housing can browse our featured per diem rate lodging providers which offer a wide range of Army Lodging Reservations off post.  Often our extended stays and furnished apartments off post may be the best option for travel lasting longer than a couple of weeks, and our hotels are generally available within the authorized DoD Per Diem Rate for travel.
