Since 9/11, Lackland AFB is no longer an open installation.  Lackland AFB Lodging is available on base, although most temporary duty travelers and personnel being assigned to the Air Force base tend to stay in local hotels and extended stay accommodations.  San Antonio is a very modern city with many new lodging establishments, nightlife, and a sprawling entertainment scene incorporating the arts and many professional sports venues.  Our previous blog post covering San Antonio lodging for government and military personnel includes Fort Sam Houston Lodging options in the local area including per diem rate hotels for military, and corporate housing and furnished apartment providers near Lackland Air Force Base.  The greater metropolitan area of San Antonio includes a third installation at Randolph Air Force Base, making the city a very military friendly city which includes many military retirees, support groups and social outlets, and a bustling urban atmosphere which includes the San Antonio Riverwalk and downtown area with plenty of exciting activities and nightlife.

Housing is available on base at Lackland, and many personnel being assigned either reside in the privatized housing on base, or seek long term quarters in San Antonio at local apartments or house rentals.  The Lackland AFB Housing Waiting List can take several months depending on the time of year, and the rate of new reassignments taking place.  Newly assigned personnel interested in purchasing a home in San Antonio, or if on the Lackland AFB housing waiting list, our furnished apartment options through our furnished apartment providers or extended stay hotels may be the best interim housing solution.
